Iain Thomson

Iain worked for many years for the Bank of England, where he undertook a wide range of roles – covering general banking, exchange control, statistics, research, foreign exchange, open market operations, training and HR. During his time with the bank he was seconded to Swaziland for 2 years to manage foreign exchange reserves at the central bank, and to advise the Governor and Swazi Government on developing local capacity to manage financial markets (including setting up Swaziland’s first stock exchange). On return from Swaziland in 1991, he combined working on HR with various training and organisational development assignments in former communist countries. He ended his time at the Bank as Head of Training & Development, with responsibilities for recruitment, through T&D, promotion boards and career management to approaches, to retirement.
Over the past 15 years, Iain has worked in 25 countries and with over 150 clients in both the public and private sectors. He now specialises in facilitating senior management and director development, through training sessions, team building events, group facilitation and individual coaching. Recent clients include a City underwriting group, various international banks, a national and some local newspaper groups, a pan-European IT consultancy firm, a Japanese construction firm, and a Sector Skills Council. He has also written on management and performance, and he lectures on an MSc course at Birkbeck College on training and consultancy.
